About the OPPORTUNITY

PROJECT SUMMARY

United Arts of Central Florida seeks proposals from professional visual artists or artist teams to design and install a public mural on an exterior wall of East End Market in Orlando, Florida.

This project is part of the Community Vibrancy Program, a donor-supported initiative that invests in place-based public art to strengthen neighborhood identity and enhance community vitality.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The selected artist will design and install a large-scale mural on an exterior wall visible from the public right-of-way. The mural site includes three recessed wall spaces, and artists may view this space as either a unified or multi-panel design approach.


THEME

Florida birds, with a preference for endangered species

Designs must:

  • Be noncommercial (no logos, branding, or advertising)
  • Be appropriate for public viewing
  • Reflect neighborhood identity and community context

WHAT TO SUBMIT

Applications must include:

  • Statement of interest and project approach
  • Concept approach narrative (brief) - describe your vision for the mural
  • Concept approach support materials - (example) reference photos, rough sketch or mockups, etc.
    • Does not require detailed concepts, renderings, or final versions
  • Work samples from past projects

HOW TO APPLY

Applications must be submitted through the United Arts Grants Portal.

Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

FAQS

Do I need to submit detailed concepts and renderings?

No. The application asks for the artist's vision and conceptual approach. What is being asked for is for the artist(s) to

  • Describe their vision for the mural
  • Share how their artistic style would respond to the project site, audience and community context.
  • The artists may reference color palettes, materials, symbolism or past work that is representative of their approach.
  • The artists may include up to three images that help illustrate their concept approach. These may include prior work or reference images.
What is the budget for the project?

The total implementation budget is $8,000.

This is inclusive of:

  • Artist design and labor
  • Materials and supplies
  • Installation costs, surface preparation and protective coating
  • Equipment
I live outside of United Arts' Service Area, am I eligible to apply?

This call for artists is aligned with United Arts service area. Artist must reside in Lake, Orange, Osceola, or Seminole Counties.
