In honor of Black Music Month and Caribbean American Heritage month, The Winter Park Playhouse has teamed up with Barbara Chandler Productions to present – Rhythms of the Caribbean –  an evening celebrating Caribbean music showcasing Caribbean steel pan and poetry, Caribbean folk songs and Caribbean Gospel singers. This unique one night event will take place at The Winter Park Playhouse in their beautiful lobby bar/cabaret space on Thursday, June 13 at 7:30pm.

path for over a decade. As the manager and cultural arts educator at The Hannibal Square Heritage Center in Winter Park, she has tirelessly championed the African-American community’s contributions, orchestrating educational events and cultural celebrations that resonate with authenticity and inclusivity.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Barbara stands as a beacon of leadership and advocacy, having made history as the first African-American mayoral candidate in 2019. With over two decades of nonprofit experience and a personality that radiates warmth and charisma, Barbara’s latest venture, Barbara Chandler Productions, embodies her commitment to showcasing unique artists and fostering cultural celebration.

A Tapestry of Talent and Tradition

Following the resounding success of last year’s “Sounds of Soul,” Barbara Chandler Productions returns with “Rhythms of the Caribbean,” a testament to the enduring spirit of Black Music Month and Caribbean American Heritage Month. The lineup boasts an array of talent representing the diverse tapestry of Caribbean culture.

From the islands of Trinidad and Tobago comes “The Pannist and The Poet,” featuring steel pan virtuoso Anthony Lewis alongside poet Winston Andrews. Their collaboration promises a mesmerizing fusion of rhythm and verse, transporting audiences to the sun-drenched shores of the Caribbean.

Joining them on stage is Caribbean Gospel singer Stacey “Elevated” Wilson, whose soul-stirring vocals infuse the evening with a sense of spiritual upliftment and joy. Additionally, audiences will be captivated by the enchanting storytelling of Jamaican folklorist Violet Lawrence, whose tales evoke the rich oral traditions of the Caribbean.

An Evening to Remember

“I am very excited to be working in collaboration once again with The Winter Park Playhouse!” shares Barbara Chandler. “As we present ‘Rhythms of the Caribbean,’ we pay tribute to Caribbean heritage and traditions and present a unique blend of talent that reflects this diverse community.”
